News From the Sun Bow Front:
Dear friends and family,
Fall in Anatolia is always a pleasant surprise.
This trip we found a real chocolateria in Istanbul...and their chocolate was to die for. In addition to having a fantastic ancient building, they also had a wonderful garden to drink hot chocolate in. All this in the middle of Istanbul.
Istanbul also had a Korean Festival in Sultan Ahmet, and of course we had to visit. No Korean BBQ, but loads of booths from other countries - including the Caucasus. It was a fun walk through, with very sweet people.
Konya was once again our cornucopia of happy food, and rugs. We enjoyed the consistently fabulous Firrin Kebab at Ali Baba's, the Arab Kofta at Numan Usta, and the 'mix'd' sandwiches from Fatih Bufe (the absolute best ever)

We also were taken to a traditional, and newly opened coffee shop in Konya. Great Turkish coffee, made the old fashioned way. So smooth and creamy, amazing what some slow cooking can do.
As we have previously decried - we are at the End of an Era. Supplies of older tribal and nomadic weaving are disappearing, and there is nothing to take their place. After all, no one can make a new 50 year old rug. And, as this way of life vanishes, the reason for weaving non commercially also vanishes. After all, why spend a month or two making a storage bag, when one can buy a usable plastic one for only pennies.
The market is reflective of this historical shift. There are fewer and fewer examples to choose from. And, in many cases, the price reflects rarity, rather than outstanding beauty or age.
However, we found some great Dagistan Sumacs, a fantastic Karapinar long piled sleeping carpet, and some yummy small prayer carpets.
Our shipment is in, just in time for our Annual Pre Christmas Sale.
This year we offer 50 % discount off of General Stock, plus free shipping to the lower 48 states.
So don't wait too long. Those who act now get the best selection.
Happy Holidays and great rugs to you.
