Turkoman Embroidered Braid Covers
4 in x 9 in

In many Islamic cultures it is considered bad form for a woman to show off her hair. Different cultures have come up with various methods to conform with this belief. The Turkoman people use a braid cover. These two examples have the form of a mans necktie, complete with knot. One only has a red star on its center knot, but the other has myriad Soviet symbols, including a hammer and sickle and the clock tower at the Kremlin.
